Seven Spiritual Laws of Super Heroes - by Deepak Chopra & Gotham Chopra

Harnessing Our Power to Change the World.
Given the volatile state of the world, it is no coincidence that superheroes have captured our imagination like never before. Everywhere you look, superheroes have broken free from their comic book pages and become a dynamic aspect of the culture at large. Superheroes are imbued with magical powers that challenge the laws of space and time, offering us a vision of a world that can change. By exploring the boundaries of energy and awareness, allowing us to better understand ourselves and our potential, superheroes can help us save the planet in a very real way.

From Buddha's search for truth to Batman's struggle with his dark side, from Wolverine exposing his greatest fears to Hanuman's divine gifts of inspiration, New York Times bestselling author Deepak Chopra with his son Gotham, author and cofounder of Liquid Comics, decode the seven essential laws that govern the realm of superheroes both ancient and modern, cosmic and commercial, and explain their relevance, importance, and perhaps most critically, how to apply them to our daily lives. These seven new transformative laws will help us all uncover greater happiness, courage, balance, creativity, compassion, and purpose in our lives. Each law has the potential to awaken us to our own superpowers and together these laws offer the potential to change our lives and the world around us.

Development and Faith: Where Mind and Heart Come Together - by Katherine Marshall,Marisa Bronwyn Van Saanen, World Bank

The faith and development nexus is both a promising new focus for secular development agencies and a historic reality: for centuries, world faiths and individuals inspired by their faith have played many roles in social change and social welfare. Secular development agencies have largely operated in parallel to the world of faith-motivated development. The World Bank began in the late 1990s to explore ways in which faith and development are connected. The issue was not and is not about religion, but about the recognition that some of the best experts on development are faith leaders living and working in poor communities, where strong ties and moral authority give them unique experience and insight.

The World Bank's goal is to act as a catalyst and convenor, bringing together development practitioners to find common ground, understand one another's efforts, and explore differences. Development and Faith explores and highlights promising partnerships in the world between secular and faith development entities. It recounts the evolving history of relationships between faith and secular development institutions. It focuses on the Millennium Development Goals as a common framework for action and an opportunity for new forms of collaboration and partnership.

No Excuses: 9 Ways Women Can Change How We Think about Power

No Excuses: 9 Ways Women Can Change How We Think about Power - Gloria Feldt

Feminist icon Gloria Feldt pulls no punches in her new book, which encourages women to step into positions of power and leadership—now. In No Excuses, she argues that the most confounding problem facing women today isn’t that doors aren’t open, but that not enough women are walking through them. From the boardroom to the bedroom, public office to personal relationships, she asserts that nobody is keeping women from parity—except themselves.

Through interviews, historical perspective, and anecdotes, No Excuses examines why barriers to equality still exist in American society.

Science and Faith: Understanding Meaning, Method, and Truth By: William Houston Chalker

In this introduction to religion and science, William Chalker outlines the nature of knowledge involved in claims about science and about religion and delineates a compatible relationship between these two fields of understanding. According to Chalker, both science and theology have their proper realms. While science and theology are different in several crucial respects, they are not incompatible. Science, he explains, is a human intellectual activity whose aim is to produce knowledge claims that will maximize utility. Theology, in contrast, is a human intellectual activity whose aim is to produce knowledge claims about ultimate purpose. The two areas of knowledge are grounded in two very basic and very different kinds of human needs. Through explaining the differeneces in the nature of truth claims in science and theology, Chalker hopes to dissolve the seemingly intractable conflict between scientific and theological ways of thinking. Written accessibly and engagingly, Science and Faith will be welcomed by both the general reader and by students in undergraduate and seminary classes.

Life's Healing Choices: Freedom from Your Hurts, Hang-ups, and Habits by John Baker

We've all been hurt by other people, we've hurt ourselves, and we've hurt others. And as a result, every single one of us ends up with some sort of hurt, hang-up, or habit. But the question we all face is, Where do we go from here?

Life's Healing Choices offers freedom from our hurts, hang-ups, and habits through eight healing choices that promise true happiness and life transformation. Using the Beatitudes of Jesus as a foundation, Senior Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church and John Baker, who is also a pastor at Saddleback, developed the eight choices shared in this program.

In addition to practical, encouraging biblical teaching, each chapter includes a real-life story from someone whose life has been transformed by living out the eight choices in this audiobook. Through making each of these choices, you too will find God's pathway to wholeness, growth, spiritual maturity, happiness, and healing. You'll find real answers, real hope, and a real future -- one healing choice at a time.

Joys of Motherhood

The Encyclopedia of Peace Education

The rise of peace education both in scholarship and in practice has yielded numerous documents, websites, and publications with often divergent perspectives on what the field is, does, and means. The Encyclopedia of Peace Education provides a comprehensive overview of the scholarly developments in the field to date, so as to provide a common denominator for the various actors involved in advancing peace education internationally.

Thus, this edited volume serves as an essential reference guide that traces the history and emergence of the field, highlights foundational concepts, contextualizes peace education practice across international and disciplinary borders, and suggests new directions for peace educators. From core conceptual perspectives to the moral and spiritual foundations of the field to the role of the United Nations, the Encyclopedia grounds peace education in a solid theoretical and practical framework through the writings of the field's most renowned scholars. This volume will target undergraduate and graduate students as well as scholars and practitioners working in international and non-governmental organizations in the field of peace education.

Life@Work
by John C Maxwell

From Publishers Weekly

Beginning with Charlie, a hard-charging businessman and recent Christian convert who feels himself torn between "Charlie Love" and "Charlie Money," the authors lament that the church, looking on the secular workplace with distance if not suspicion, has little to offer the Charlies in its midst. The authors—Graves and Addington are producers of Life@Work Journal and Maxwell is the foremost leadership guru among evangelicals—deploy a wealth of quotations and illustrations, loosely organized around themes of skill, calling, service and character. Although the book seeks to inspire Charlie and those like him to "reforge" their work and faith selves into a double-edged sword, it runs long on cheerleading but short on insight or practical guidance. Discussing the important and difficult subject of calling, the authors assert without apparent irony, "Like a giant job-match service in the sky, Jesus pairs His children up with His kingdom tasks." Among the book's frequent references to Jesus, his teaching is rarely discussed; most curiously, his comment about the incompatibility of serving God and Mammon is never mentioned. Although team authorship can produce excellent business books, the approach stumbles here as uneven quality and multiple authorial "I" 's give the text a cut-and-paste feel.
