Teaching
Young Children In Violent Times
by Diane E. Levin and Deborah Prothrow-Stith
The new edition of this highly acclaimed book is a must for
early childhood educators, parents, and policy makers. It helps
teachers create a Peaceable Classroom, where children learn
peaceful alternatives to the violent behaviors modeled for them
in society. This extensively revised and updated edition features
new material for a post-September 11th world including a new
chapter on helping children deal with violence in the news.
"Building a Peaceable Classroom" is one of my favorite
books, and sadly, it is needed today more than ever. Diane
gives teachers a wealth of practical and positive strategies
for helping children solve problems peacefully and live respectfully
with others. She suggests ways to help children cope with
their fears in an increasingly unsafe world. It is a perfect
complement to any early childhood curriculum." —Diane
